Plane spotting · New Zealand
Find a spot.
See the plane.
Catch it.
Spotting spots around every airport and airfield in Aotearoa, made by spotters. Meet up with other people who look up, and catch the planes you can really see with the SpotterGO app.
How it works
Three steps to your first catch
Pick a good place to watch
Every spot on the map is rated green, blue or black, from family-friendly to keen-spotters-only, with what you'll see, the best light and what's there.
Point your phone at the sky
SpotterGO labels the planes above you from live flight data: flight number, aircraft type, where it's going and how far away it is.
Only if you can really see it
Line it up in the camera and catch it. Each plane type becomes a card in your logbook, and your check-ins show which spot you caught it from.

The app
SpotterGO: plane spotting with a camera that knows what's up there
Augmented reality labels on every plane in view, a catch that needs a real sighting, collectible cards for every type, and a logbook that follows you onto this website.

What we stand for
A fair game, made by its players
You have to see it
No catching planes off a map from your couch. A catch needs the plane in your camera view, so every card in your logbook is a plane you really saw.
Never pay-to-win
Catching, spots, meetups and friends leaderboards are free, always. Optional extras later never buy you points.
Made by spotters
Spots are added, checked and kept up to date by the community, with clear guidelines: public places only, respect private land and airport security.
On the way: leaderboards, challenges, SpotterPRO and a kids' mode. See what's coming and get one email when they launch.
